Senator Escamilla named Child Advocate of the Year

Senate Minority Whip Luz Escamilla was honored Friday night as the Child Advocate of the Year 2019 by the Children's Service Society (CSS), at the Marriott City Center Hotel, Salt Lake City.

At its annual winter gala, themed this year as “Swinging on a Star,” CSS recognizes an individual who has or is making a difference for the families and children of Utah.

“We believe you are a dedicated and passionate public figure who is a concerned advocate,” CSS Executive Director Encarni Gallardo told Sen. Escamilla, “and fights for families by moving legislation forward that impacts working families and their children.”

This great organization is celebrating 135 years serving children and families in the state of Utah. From adoption, home visiting and a unique grandparents program, CSS is impacting the lives of many children every day, explained Sen. Escamilla about the organization.

“Former Rep. Joanne Milner was extremely kind when presenting the award,” said Sen. Escamilla, “and David Ibarra gave a powerful speech of hope and perseverance sharing his personal story.”

Deannie Wimmer of KSL News was master of ceremonies of the event, which was a fundraiser for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
