Senator Iwamoto Recognizes the League of Women Voter’s 100th Anniversary

SALT LAKE CITY – Senator Iwamoto will be honoring the League of Women Voters’ 100th Anniversary on the Senate floor this Friday at 11:15 AM. This citation commemorates the League of Women Voters and all the work they have done in the past 100 years. In addition to recognizing its centennial anniversary, the resolution recognizes the League as an important non-partisan civic organization working for the welfare of all Utahns, as well as its long history of civic engagement. The resolution also recognizes how the League has grown to include all citizens, encouraging informed and active participation in government, working to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influencing public policy through education and advocacy.

February 14th also marks exactly 150 years since Seraph Young, a Utah schoolteacher, entered City Hall and cast the vote that made her the first woman to cast a vote in the United States of America. Both February 14, 1870 and February 14, 1920 will be recognized on the Senate floor this Friday.
