Statement on the Tax Restructuring Revisions Referendum

SALT LAKE CITY – As we kick of the 2020 Legislative Session, the Senate Minority Caucus wants to recognize all the hard work that went into gathering the signatures necessary to repeal the tax reform plan and applauds the civic engagement of all those who participated. We have stood with the people against the food tax and poor public policy related to tax reform. People in this state have a right to have their voices heard, especially with matters affecting their basic necessities and everyday lives.

We expect the county clerks to continue counting and verifying every signature gathered throughout the past few months. The verification process should continue through the Lieutenant Governor’s office once the county clerks have sent over the signatures from their respective counties. This process is an excellent example of what we can achieve when we work together to accomplish what the people of the State of Utah want. Everyone who signed the petition has a right to be counted and expect to know the outcome of the process.
