Utah State Senator Derek Kitchen Applauds Utah Conversion Therapy Ban

Utah State Senator Derek L. Kitchen issued the following statement in response to Governor Gary R. Herbert’s decision to enact a rule banning the practice of so-called “conversion therapy” in Utah: This is a great moment for the safety and wellbeing of Utah’s LGBTQ+ youth. I am grateful to the countless Utahns who have written and spoken out in favor of banning conversion therapy. Governor Herbert’s action will protect Utah’s LGBTQ+ community from a dangerous and cruel practice rejected by all mainstream medical and mental heath organization in the United States. I look forward to the day when conversion therapy is banned nationwide.

Honoring Our Fallen K9 Officers

During the 2018 General Session, Senator Iwamoto sponsored SB 57 to increase the penalty for killing a K9 police officer. These heroes are an essential component of law enforcement. For the 2019 Primary Children's Hospital Festival of Trees, a tree will be decorated in honor of all our fallen K9 police officers, who have died in the line duty. Senator Iwamoto is grateful for the opportunity to help support the memory of these heroes through participation in the festival. Bidding on the trees will take place at the Opening Night Auction on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the Mountain America Exposition Center. Tickets can be purchased online, and the festival runs through Saturday, December 7. #
